Shaundra Moreland
Hip-Hop and Jazz Instructor
Shaundra “Shaun” Moreland is a passionate dancer and creative artist from Columbia, South Carolina. Shaun developed a love for dance at an early age through her participation in praise dance, hip-hop dance, and stepping competitions. In 2018, Shaun graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She then began working full time in the social work field; furthering her passion for advocacy and service. This passion also shines through in her dedication to dance! Shaun continues cultivating her craft by participating in various performance and dance training opportunities. Her most recent credits include performances in “Project Full Out” and “The Hip-Hop Festival Showcase” during Charlotte’s International Arts Festival. Shaun has also performed with contemporary-based dance company the “Johnson Company'' and has assisted in choreography for local stage plays. Shaun aspires to always provide a safe space to grow and learn alongside others. She is excited for the amazing journey ahead with Southern Swag Dance Academy!
Dallas McKinney
Musical Theatre Instructor
Dallas McKinney is excited to use his training from Royal Caribbean International and Cedar Fair Entertainment to bring excitement, energy and originality to Southern Swag Dance Academy! He will be teaching musical theater style dance, which is a form of dancing that emphasizes learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and facial expressions as you dance. He is thankful for the opportunity to work with the SSDA family and thanks you for your trust, time, and dedication to the arts.
Susan Cato-Chapman
Musical Theatre Instructor
Susan Cato-Chapman has taught Acting, Movement, and Directing in higher education for over a decade. She holds an MFA in Acting from Florida Atlantic University and a BA from The University of North Carolina at Asheville. A Certified Teacher in the Michael Chekhov Technique, she serves as Associate Director of the Great Lakes Michael Chekhov Consortium located in Ohio. Susan is also a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique through Chesapeake Bay Alexander Studies. She is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association.
Jim Smith
Musical Theatre Instructor
Jim Smith has been directing and producing Broadway-style local musicals for over 20 years. He is passionate about bringing people together by engaging them to focus on community involvement and values. Jim has a deep love for local and foreign missions and has a very diverse and creative background. Jim has served on staff for over 25 years in Southern Baptist churches in the capacities of youth, music, administration, programming and worship arts. An educator by profession, he has taught music in middle and high schools as well as on the community college level. Jim has been the director of a fine arts municipal auditorium and is a writer, composer and playwright. He has an Associates of Fine Arts from Brevard College, a Bachelors of Music Education from Mars Hill University, and has extended his studies throughout the years.
